Call for Papers

The second volume of Turkish-German Studies Yearbook in 2011 was devoted to the 50thanniversary of the migration of Turkish guest workers to Germany. At that time, the prevailing mood surrounding Turkish-German relations was celebratory. Discussions on Leitkultur, the supposed phenomenon of speaking two languages halfway, and integration faded into the background, while mutual acceptance seemed within reach.

This includes events and figures surrounding Peterloo, Chartism and early twentieth-century suffrage movements; but we also encourage participants to explore connections between Romantic-era radicals and activists today, especially in light of the “generational change” that is a growing feature of political discourse at the current moment. To mark the publication of The Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry, edited by Anne Caldwell and Oz Hardwick, there will be a one-day symposium at Leeds Trinity University (UK) on Saturday 13th July 2019.

The symposium will consist of talks, panels, the official launch of The Valley Press Anthology of Prose Poetry, and an optional workshop. Further details may be found below. We welcome non-traditional modes of presentation and welcome panel proposals.
