Calls for Papers: Nathaniel Hawthorne Society
The Annual Conference of the American Literature Association will meet at the Westin Copley Place in Boston on May 23-26, 2019. The Nathaniel Hawthorne Society is issuing two CFPs for ALA:
1) Hawthorne and Architecture
We invite proposals investigating the topic, “Hawthorne and Architecture.” We welcome interest in all aspects of architecture, its theory, practice, or design, in Hawthorne’s writing, from well-known works such as “Mosses from an Old Manse,” “The Custom House,” or House of Seven Gables, to lesser-known sketches like “Hall of Fantasy” or “Sights from a Steeple.” Abstracts of 250 words to Nancy Sweet at nsweet@csus.edu by January 16, 2019.
2) Teaching Hawthorne
We invite proposals exploring innovative approaches to teaching the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne to today’s college students. We especially welcome submissions from our colleagues at two-year institutions, in addition to contributions from those at four-year institutions.
