10th Anniversary SoTL ConferenceMetacognition: Empowering Teaching and LearningThe organizing committee for the 10th Anniversary of the SoTL Conference, invites you to submit an original proposal for this year’s conference, which takes "Metacognition: Empowering Teaching and Learning" as its theme. Hosted this year at The University of Findlay, SoTL is a two-day conference that promotes dialog about teaching and learning strategies with emphasis on student and instructor metacognition.​  It is a day to reflect on how our students learn, retain, problem-solve, and apply information in a learning environment. The SoTL conference offers innovative, interesting, and interactive professional development sessions based on research, theory, and best practices.     Possible proposal topics might include but are not limited to aspects of the scholarship of teaching and learning​​​​​​​​​ related to: 

  • Assessment and Evaluation
  • Critical-Thinking Skills
  • The Art of Reflection
  • Becoming a Better Thinker​ 

********************************** CONFERENCE SESSION FORMATS1. Paper Presentations—I​ndividual proposals (no more than 300 words) for 20-minute presentations. 2. Panel Discussions—Traditional panels consist of either two 20-minute panel discussions (i.e. two 20-minute panels with similar topics), OR, one 40-minute panel discussion (i.e. larger panel focused on one topic)​​. All panel proposals must submit a 300-word abstract of the session. Abstracts will be evaluated individually. ​3. Workshop—Individuals may submit a proposal (no more than 300 words) to present their materials via  45-minute workshops.  These workshops must include some sort of activity that encourages audience participation. ​

 PROPOSAL SUBMISSION PROCESS1. Sessions prop​​osals must be submitted electronically (button below) by Friday, March 1, 2019. 2​​. All abstracts should clearly state the problem or research question(s), the main point or argument​, ​​and significance of your session (limit ​of 300 words).3. Please indicate your session format, as well as which conference track your session represents and the names and contact information of additional presenters as necessary​​.4. Selection of our finalists will based upon the proposals only. The proposals must be specific and reflect the intended contents of the session. ​​​5​​.
