The Sidneys at the Sixteenth-Century Society Conference, 2019
CFP: Sidney(s) at SCSC, St Louis, October 2019
The International Sidney Society invites proposals/abstracts for three sessions to be held at the 2019 Sixteenth Century Society Conference. We invite proposals on any topic relating to the life and work of Sir Philip Sidney, Mary Sidney Countess of Pembroke, Robert Sidney Earl of Leicester, and/or Lady Mary Wroth.
Some of the topics that we thought might be addressed include:
- Teaching Sidneys: Instruction and delight, as practiced by the Sidneys, and perhaps by us concerning them;
- Working with Sidneys: The Sidneys and patronage, the Sidneys’ participation in projects, or our working with their works as editors;
- Sidneys in Place: The Sidney Circle’s engagement with the poetics of physical, political, or intellectual places or spaces.
These, though, are merely suggestions, and all Sidney-centered topics will be welcome.
They will be not only welcome but sure to be favorably considered if they are received by Lady Day: March 25, 2019. SCSC needs panels shortly after April Fools’ Day, so the sooner we get them the more wisely we will be able to act.
Proposals should be sent to Roger Kuin at rogerkuin@gmail.com.
