Call for papers: Proust Post Prix Goncourt

2020 MLA Annual Convention in Seattle, USA from 9 to 12 January, 2020

How does the accolade of the Prix Goncourt, received in December 1919, for A l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs impact Proust, the writing, editing and publishing of the subsequent volumes of A la recherche du temps perdu and/or their reception? This panel will explore the effects of the Prix Goncourt on the writer, the œuvre, and the public’s response thereafter to Proust’s work. Papers may be delivered in French or English. Please submit short abstracts and bios (no more than 500 words total) to Adeline Soldin by March 15, 2019.

As a special session, the MLA has not yet accepted this panel. Organizers must submit panel proposals by April 1 and will be notified by early June whether the panel is accepted or not. Per MLA policies, all accepted participants must pay membership dues by April 7, whether the panel is accepted or not. More information about organizing panels and presenting at the MLA can be found here.
