As we strive for more diversity, social justice, and student agency in the German curriculum, it might be helpful to discuss our wider notions and definitions of diversity as well as how we hope to integrate them into our teachings. But what do we consider to be diverse? What keeps us from succeeding in designing more diversified syllabi? What are the blind spots we create despite our best efforts? Where is our own awareness lacking and how do we find approaches to overcome this oversight? Can we really create a truly diverse syllabus, or does including one aspect involuntarily result in including another?

This roundtable session is looking for contributions that present their attempts in finding answers to these questions of the diversification of syllabi, texts, author-choices, and assignments, and an honest discussion of what works and what does not yet.
Topics can include but are not limited to engaging and empowering foreign language teaching practices, student agency in creating syllabi and assignments, content-focused topics of diversity and social justice such as decolonization, disability, gender, gentrification, homelessness, migration, politics, and race.

We are looking for proposals discussing past, current and future syllabi, assignments, classroom activities, topics based on current and past classroom experiences, and projects. Panelists should also be willing to engage in a discussion with the intended audience.
