This roundtable is part of the Northeast Modern Language Association conference being held in Boston, MA, from March 5-8th, 2020.

Abstract: This roundtable invites new and emerging perspectives on feminist disability studies, particularly the ways in which feminist disability studies includes intersectional voices. As feminist disability studies continues to develop, different approaches and perspectives are needed in the methods that scholars use to theorize the connections between feminist theory and disability studies. These perspectives include intersections of class, race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, and identity, among others. Presentations should answer questions such as: what are the possibilities of intersectionality in feminist disability theory? What perspectives should feminist disability studies seek to include in its discourse? What can other aspects of identity bring to our conversations surrounding feminism and disability? As feminist disability studies continues to develop, intersectionality should be at the forefront of emerging theorization of disabled women’s lived experiences.

Description: This roundtable will explore emerging perspectives in the discourse community of feminist disability studies. Presentations should develop new landscapes of feminist disability studies that include intersectionality and other aspects of identity in relation to both feminism and disability studies. How can the future of feminist disability studies include other perspectives on disability and women? What are the possibilities of feminist disability studies? What should the future hold for feminist disability studies?

Please submit a 250-word abstract to Maria Rovito at by September 30th, 2019.
