CALL FOR PAPERS (Extended Deadline!)

Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) Conference

Thursday, November 14, 2019 to Sunday, November 17, 2019, Wyndham San Diego Bayside Hotel, San Diego, California

Conference Theme "Send in the Clowns"

The 2019 PAMLA Conference is being held over the November 14-17 weekend, in beautiful San Diego, California once again! Do consider joining us at the Wyndham San Diego Bayside hotel this year, and as many PAMLA attendees can attest, the conference itself is sure to be an incredibly enjoyable, friendly, and rigorous experience for scholars at all stages in their professional careers. Go to https://www.pamla.org/2019 for more information.

Session: Literature of the American West (sponsored by the Western Literature Association) (https://pamla.ballastacademic.com/Home/S/17049)
Presiding Officer: Ben Wirth
Proposal Due Date: July 10th (Extended)

Panel abstract: As a location on the western edge of the North American West, San Diego is an ideal location for discussions of cinema, drama, prose, and poetry of the region. This panel welcomes proposals that explore, problematize, and/or redefine the West as a construct that emerges throughout various forms of representation with particular interest in topics that deal with the conference theme of "Send In the Clowns." Proposals considering San Diego's particular regional languages and literatures, or proposals more generally addressing literature of the American West are welcome. This panel is the result of an exciting new affiliation between PAMLA and the Western Literature Association (WLA). As per WLA and PAMLA policies, presenters on this panel must be members of both the WLA and PAMLA. If you are not a WLA member and your proposal is accepted, we will refer you to www.westernlit.org for details regarding membership. Any questions or concerns about this double-membership rule can be directed to PAMLA Exective Director Craig Svonkin: director@pamla.org.

Note: Feel free to submit a session regardless of the conference theme, and please contact me with any questions or concerns about the panel.

Moreover, for those also interested in other sessions related to American Studies, see https://pamlaballastacademic.com/home/cfp and search for this area of study! We look forward to your submission!
