Submissions for Young Scholars in Writing Volume 18 will be open from December 2019 through April 8, 2020. Young Scholars in Writing: Undergraduate Research in Writing and Rhetoric is an international peer-reviewed journal (https://arc.lib.montana.edu/ojs/index.php/Young-Scholars-In-Writing/index). It publishes research and theoretical articles by undergraduates of all majors and years on the subjects of rhetoric, writingwriters, discourse, language, and related topics.

For this volume, we are accepting the following types of submissions.

  • Articles (original research; 10-25 pages double spaced)
  • Comments & Responses (response to previous YSW article which presents a clear argument and draws on additional sources; 2-5 pages double spaced)
  • Methodological Reflections (detailed narrative and reflection about experience using empirical method that is in conversation with literature on methods; 3-8 pages double spaced)
  • Spotlight on First-Year Writing (research by students in first-year college writing courses; 5-25 pages double spaced)

YSW uses a 2-step submission process. Authors submit an abstract of their project and then will receive instructions on how to submit their complete manuscript. Submit your abstract here. Undergraduate researchers in writing studies and their faculty mentors are invited to contact the YSW editorial team with questions about the journal and the submission process.
