Special Issue for Fall 2021: New Approaches to Harold Pinter
This special issue of Modern Drama seeks essays that demonstrate new approaches to Harold Pinter’s plays. We seek submissions that take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Pinter, including but not limited to affect theory, archival research, ecological humanities, legal humanities, medical humanities, neuro/psycholinguistics, post-colonialism, post-structuralism, or textual genetics. We also invite submissions that address specific topics or questions, such as how renewed attention to playwrights marginalized during Pinter’s lifetime leads us to reassess Pinter’s treatment of gender, race, class, and ethnicity. Articles may discuss additional topics, such as embodiment in Pinter’s work, both in text and performance, in order to consider the actor’s body, stage directions, and physical performance. Alternatively, have any particular productions or adaptations of Pinter’s plays exposed previously latent content, questions, or problems, and, if so, how do such productions bear on reassessing Pinter’s more contemporary, and even future, significance?
This issue will be edited by guest editor Matthew Roberts. We will consider full length essays for the print edition (6,000-9,000 words).

Print submissions and online submissions should submitted no later than October 1, 2020. The issue is planned for Fall 2021 (64.3).
