“Old English” at the 74rd Annual RMMLA Convention
October 8-10, 2020
Boulder, CO
Deadline for Abstracts: March 31, 2020
I am pleased to announce the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association (RRMLA) is holding its annual conference in Boulder, CO, this year. Last year, in El Paso, there was a major increase in interest and participation in both the Old and Middle English sessions. To keep up the momentum, I am delighted that for the 2020 conference, the Old English panel is expanding its scope to include not only papers focusing on the Old English language but papers focusing on any aspect of the history and culture of early medieval England.
I would like to invite individual paper proposals dealing with any aspect of the Old English language, its dialects, and literature, as well as welcome papers on the culture and history of early medieval England. Topics could include, but are not limited to the following:
Language and voice
Orthography and pronunciation
Expressions of place and time in literature
women and gender in Old English heroic poetry
Language of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle
The recovery of Old English
Translation(s) of Alfred the Great
