The PopMeC Research Blog (https://popmec.hypotheses.org/, ISSN 2660-8839) is a peer-reviewed academic blog publishing short articles on a rolling basis.

ECRs and PGR students are very welcome to send their papers, as well as scholars at any stage of their career.

 

Full papers (about 3000 words, bibliographic references excluded) on topics related with popular culture, including (but not limited to):

>       the representation of specific ethnic / religious / gender / etc. groups in the US popular media and culture (including mainstream, alternative, and self-representations)

>       the de/construction of national storytelling and stereotyped narratives

>       the reception of popular culture products and their publics

>       comparative studies of contrasting / similar representations

>       the US society as represented through humor, caricature, and satire

>       dystopian/utopian fiction

>       the representation of science, as well as specific perspectives in science fiction

>       film, (web)TV series, graphic narratives, pop music, new media

 

Critical reviews of specific popular culture products (1200-2000 words) including comics and graphic novels, movies and (web)TV series, literature dealing with topics of self/representation, videogames, popular music, popular digital media channels (eg. YouTube), exhibitions

 

Pop History posts (about 1000 words) related to relevant US historical anniversaries / celebrations, pop culture products directly dealing with history, public history projects

 

Book reviews (400-600 words)

All proposals will be peer-reviewed on a rolling basis by our editors and external reviewers, who will get back at you with the shortest notice possible.
