Essays for edited collection on Nordic Shakespeare 1890 - 1960
We are soliciting essays for a volume on Shakespeare in the Nordic countries in the period 1890 – 1960. As we currently have a good coverage of the early 20th century, we are primarily interested in contributions that cover cases c. 1920 – 1960. Essays can deal with any of the Nordic countries and focus on translation, performance and/or aspects of influence on particular Nordic authors.
The book will be part of a two-volume project for a major UK publisher covering the early dissemination of Shakespeare in the Nordic countries. As a whole, the project moves beyond straightforward histories of ‘national Shakespeare’ and of British influences and seeks to consider Shakespeare in a global and international context, including relations between the Nordic countries in the period. Contributions that address this focus would therefore be particularly welcome.
Contributions should be no longer than 8,000 words. Abstracts of 400-500 words should be submitted by 15 September, 2020 to the addresses below, and if accepted, full chapters should be completed by 31 December, 2020.
If you want to discuss a possible contribution or wish to submit a formal abstract, please contact the editors, Nely Keinänen and Per Sivefors, at firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com (messages should be sent to both).
