Spanish in the US: Globalization, Glocalization and New Discourses

 The session seeks papers that examine new discourses, practices and identities, in US Latino and Hispanic communities in response to social pressures from above and outside (globalization) and social pressures from below and inside (glocalization).  In particular, the session hopes to address questions pertaining to space, place, dominance, legitimacy and authenticity in creating discourses in the context of English hegemony and contest and contact among Spanish varieties in the United States. Research that discusses the theoretical and empirical relevance of globalization and glocalization in US Spanish from more than one perspective such as sociolinguistics, literary theory, discourse analysis, cultural studies and other related disciplines are especially welcome.
