CFP for Seminar Session:
'Rocking the Cradle': Labor Movements, Unionism, and Live Performance in the 21st Century
This seminar invites participants to consider how 21st-century transnational labor movements and localized unionizing efforts are utilizing live performance as a tactic of resistance in protests and community outreach efforts. It also invites participants to reflect on how contemporary performance artists across the globe have engaged with discourses surrounding the global rejection of poverty wages; neoliberalism, neocolonialism, and free trade agreements; and unionism. The aim of this seminar is to consider the future of the labor movement and the role of the artist within such a movement in a post-COVID-19 world. Particular attention will be given to analyses that are supported by a queer feminist and transnational theoretical framework.

Please submit 250- to 300-word abstracts and include your name, affiliation, and a short bio.

Abstracts due September 30.
The session chair will confirm the acceptance of abstracts by October 15.
