We use “disabilities” and “sexualities” in the plural, as, in each category, there exist many variations and representations which cannot be reduced to a simple or singular meaning.

Beyond Borders: Mapping Sexualities and the Sexualisation of Spaces

International Conference - May 6 and 7, 2021

Institut d’Études Transtextuelles et Transculturelles (IETT)

Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3

This conference will examine the relationship between the notions of boundaries and sexuality from an interdisciplinary, transnational and transcultural perspective. In particular, it aims to map the ways in which space determines sexualities and sexual practices, and to understand, in turn, how sex structures and limits the spaces in which we live, and how we relate to them.

Futures of Queer Reproduction (NEMLA, March 2021)

updated:
Monday, July 20, 2020 - 11:21am
Northeast MLA
deadline for submissions:
Wednesday, September 30, 2020

As José Esteban Muñoz has argued, the antirelational or antisocial thesis—the polemic against reproduction, the insistence that the figure of the child serves only to promise a collective future that thwarts and forecloses anything not assimilable to heteronormativity—fails to account for modes of futurity that are already legible now, particularly in aesthetic objects that serve as “maps” of concrete utopian thinking. Such maps, historically relational and collectively forged, open spaces for thinking about a future that is not yet here—but also help us locate elements of the utopian that are already present.
