ICEA 2020: Annual Conference
This year marks 85 years since ICEA began hosting academic conferences. It is almost fitting, then, to be able to mark this occasion by moving forward together in another landmark occasion: our first fully digital conference experience, using Zoom as our teleconference software of choice.
Our theme this year is “Bridging the Gap(s).” As scholars and educators, we recognize gaps of many kinds: academic, educational, financial, intellectual, geographic, emotional, sociological, racial, interpersonal, etc. As mindful citizens, we recognize the gap(s) occurring in our current society: what gaps have been created or bridged in education because of COVID-19? What gaps have been created or healed in society because of the ongoing racial and political unrest in our state, in our country? Some gaps divide, while others invite innovation or growth in order to create new connections. Bridgingthese gaps, then, is an essential and inescapable part of the human experience.
While we invite any and all papers related to post-secondary English studies, we especially encourage papers that explore this theme through (but not limited to) the following avenues:
*Literary analysis and/or textual criticism
*Teaching digitally; the pedagogical shift due to COVID-19
*Writing across the curriculum (WAC) and/or writing in the disciplines (WID)
*Rhetoric and composition
*Historical and/or cultural contextualizations of gaps in literature
*Other pedagogy and classroom practices
*Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL/TEFL/TELL, etc.)
*Educational efforts to explore or bridge between other disciplines; cross-disciplinary or interdisciplinary work
*Ways literature has bridged other gap(s)
We encourage you to submit your 200-word abstract, along with your name, position (if applicable), and affiliation by September 1, 2020 to IndianaCEA@gmail.com. Graduate students are also encouraged to submit; undergraduates with faculty support will be considered as well. As we are part of the greater College English Association, successful papers presented at ICEA 2020 are welcomed for submission at CEA’s next national conference; this allows for further refinement of a paper/idea, to a broader audience.
NOTE: if you had been accepted to present a paper or panel when our 2020 Conference coincided with the Beyond Boundaries Symposium, your proposals are automatically accepted and invited to present at our conference: you should receive another email asking to accept that invitation. ICEA is still planning on participating when the Symposium takes place on April 9-10, 2021. We will have more information for you in the coming months about how you can take part in that opportunity.
