This roundtable invites abstracts for short position papers reflecting on the present state of nineteenth-century studies. How do recent developments in and around the field change our understanding of the nineteenth-century as a site of inquiry? Papers might include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Comparative, present-oriented, or other paradigm-shifting research frameworks that dispense with or otherwise alter conventional understandings of periodization and value
- Graduate studies; the decline of period-specific faculty positions; the growth in generalist and contingent assignments
- Anti-racist research and pedagogy
- Defenses of nineteenth-century studies as a field of inquiry
The 2021 Conference of the Nineteenth-Century Studies Association will be held online from March 11th-13th, 2021. Send brief abstracts and one-page C.V. to Dr. Benjamin D. O'Dell, Assistant Professor of English at Georgia Gwinnett College, at bodell1@ggc.edu by October 1st, 2020.
