Pedagogy: Considering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Composition and Literary Study

250- to 500-word proposals, with title, for 15-minute papers/presentations on pedagogical considerations of diversity/equity/inclusion (DEI) issues in literature and composition.  Papers should address topics like the following:  curricular/classroom concerns and imaginative solutions to the development of courses treating ethnic literatures, spiritual orientations, gender-identity readings, and/or creative work within communities of color; selection of materials and modes of presentation; expanding the canon; balancing of aesthetic, social, and political issues; multiculturalism and civic engagement/social justice through composition work &/or literary study; managing difficult discussions in the classroom; the impact of DEI issues and concerns, such as Black Lives Matter or the Me Too movement, on students’ writing life and identity &/or on encouraging empathic reading; and the challenges and rewards of a diverse curriculum.  In this context, considerations of diversity in the Covid/Delta classroom are also welcome.  The presentation should be integrated with current scholarship regarding the ongoing critical conversation on DEI issues within the discipline.
