Call for associate editors: US representation in popular culture

deadline for submissions:
December 31, 2020
full name / name of organization:
PopMeC research

PopMeC is an academic collective interested in investigating the articulation of the numerous and heterogeneous representations which have been constructing images of the US. The research group’s work is focused on how the US—their history, society, and diverse cultures—have been represented in popular media and cultural products. We foster a participative, engaging collaboration among scholars of any level interested in the field, as well as we aim at allowing postgraduate and early career participants to receive feedback and support in an academic safe space.

This call is for associate editors, who will be regularly invited to join in editorial discussions, form part of the blog’s pool of reviewers, and have the chance to propose or collaborate in the coordination of calls, events, and activities. Our editors can be specialized in any area that can relate with popular media and culture, focusing on specific aspects of the US context.

For those who might need it, the chief editor will release certifications of the editor’s position in the editorial team and activities (e.g. as peer-reviewer).

Among the fields we’re interested in (but not limited to) we suggest:

  • African American studies
  • Arab American studies
  • Asian American studies
  • Jewish American studies
  • Native American studies
  • US-Canada borderlands
  • US land/urbanscapes
  • Specific perspectives (ecocriticism, children-related products, body culture, trauma studies, humor and satire, political exploitation of culture, queer studies, etc.)

If you are interested in applying or you have any inquiries, please send your academic cv to popmec.call@gmail.com, specifying for which areas of expertise you would like to collaborate.
