Over Journal - A Critical Journal of Photography and Visual Culture
OVER Journal is a new periodical publication and online platform that proposes to its readers a deep, honest, critical and edifying experience of Photography and Visual Culture.
OVER Journal is interested in challenging and preventing the repetition of obsolete and flawed structures, as much as highlighting the work of those who are expanding what we still call Photography into new horizons. The journal is a space for reflection on new practices, new voices, new ways of thinking.
1. CALL FOR PAPERS
The editorial team of OVER Journal welcomes submissions of essays by any individuals or collaborators engaged in critical and cultural inquiry that address key issues around Photography and Visual Culture, including those deriving from other disciplines and interests. We are particularly interested in papers that aim to bring attention to critical positions or debates that can benefit and bring about social change, open new cultural dialogues, or reimagine new futures for Photography. Submissions must be in English. We welcome material not older than 3 years (unless specifically relevant to current issues or themes).
To submit, please email us two separate files in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format:
– One file with your one page Bio/CV and an abstract of the paper of up to 300 words.
– A second file with the completed paper, of no less than 2000 words.
Writing should be clear and accessible and all text should be double-spaced, aside from footnotes, including endnotes and quotations. Writing should consistently follow a standard style guide, for example Chicago Manual.
The paper should be prepared for blind review by removing personal references and your name/s. At the time of submission, images can be embedded at a low resolution in the paper. If accepted for publication, separate, larger image files will be requested or sourced.
All selected papers will be circulated to selected members from our peer review panel for consideration, using a ‘double-blind’ review process, in which neither author nor reviewer know each other’s identity. The peer review panel will be headed by Daniel Boetker-Smith, Dean of Studies at Photography Studies College (Melbourne), and supported by OVER Journal Co-editors Julia Gelezova and Ángel Luis González. Members include Justin Carville (IE), Dr. Mohini Chandra (IN-FJ), Irina Chmyreva (RU), Yining He (CH), Caroline McQuarrie (NZ), and Niclas Östlind (SE).
OVER Journal does not generally publish papers that have been published elsewhere in English, or sent out for review that are under consideration elsewhere. This information should be disclosed on submission. Once a paper is accepted for publication, the author will be asked to sign an Author Agreement. Authors retain copyright, and OVER Journal will assist in clearing all picture usage permissions.
Accepted submissions will be published either through overjournal.org or in the printed journal, depending on the editorial decision, either in full or abridged.
Submissions are free and we pay fees to all contributors.
Deadline: Submissions are accepted twice a year, only between 1-28 February and 1-31 August.
CALL FOR PAPERS, ARTICLES, AND WORKS.
Papers and Articles may be critically focused on aspects often overlooked that affect the discipline, zooming out to observe the whole scene, to analyse what exactly is happening, and what power relationships are at play.
We accept submissions by email to info@overjournal.org of papers, proposals for articles and interviews, and submissions of artistic work strictly under the following conditions described below – we will not consider submissions that ignore these simple terms.
