True Crime Index - Call for Book Reviews
As an increasingly popular genre, true crime has enjoyed a fascinating surge in both academic and cultural interest over the last twenty years. As a relatively new academic discipline, scholars such as Mark Seltzer, David Schmidt, Tanya Horeck, and many others have published ground-breaking studies of the phenomenon of true crime and our various responses to it. However, the gap between popular culture’s interest in true crime and the burgeoning academic discipline remains wide, and True Crime Index invites reviews that seek to close this gap.
True Crime Index is a Canadian website dedicated to reviewing both academic and popular works of and about true crime. We are currently seeking submissions for book reviews of both academic monographs and popular true crime books. Graduate and professional students are encouraged to submit reviews in order to build publications on their CV.
Please visit https://truecrimeindex.ca/ for more information, or follow us on Twitter @TrueCrimeIndex.
Reviews may be of academic or mainstream works that make a substantial contribution to the true crime genre. At True Crime Index, we are committed to fostering an environment of safety, respect, and inclusivity. Reviews should endeavour to use language that does not in any way erase the existence of queer people, BIPOC individuals, or people with disabilities. We will not accept any review that expounds hate speech of any kind.
Reviews should be 1500-200 words in length and can be emailed to truecrimeindex@gmail.com along with a short, 50-word bio. The deadline for submissions is on or before April 30th, 2021.
