CFP: PAMLA 2021-Young Adult Literature and Culture Panel (extended deadline!)
Call for Papers: Young Adult Literature and Culture Panel
Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association (PAMLA) Conference
Thurday November 11 to Sunday November 14, 2021, at the Sahara Las Vegas Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada
PAMLA Conference Theme: "City of God, City of Destruction" (https://pamla.ballastacademic.com/Home/CFP)
This session is open to all papers that explore some aspect of Young Adult literature and/or culture, but I am particularly interested in papers attuned to some facet of the conference theme, "City of God, City of Destruction." Further, presentations that examine diverse voices in media are encouraged. For example, 2020 brought viewers Trickster, a CBC adaptation of Indigenous writer Eden Robinson’s novel, Son of Trickster (nominated for Canada Reads 2020). Also, Marie Lu, author of the dystopian Legend series, published her newest novel Skyhunter about Talin, a female assassin. In addition, Suzanne Collins’ long-awaited Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, about the evolution of the future President Snow was published in May. This is just a sample of the plethora of dystopian YA media that hopefully signals a more representative field. This panel welcomes submissions about young adult literature, film, and television. Feel free to submit an abstract pertaining to the conference theme or otherwise. Abstracts must be submitted via the conference portal (see above link) not through email. Please contact me if you have any questions.
