Romancing the Gothic Lecture/Class Series - Horror, Gothic, Romance, Supernatural and Folklore talks

deadline for submissions:
March 31, 2022
full name / name of organization:
Romancing the Gothic Project

Romancing the Gothic is a free online education project which started in March 2020 and provides classes and talks on various aspects of horror, the Gothic, the supernatural, folklore and more. We put on talks each week which are then also made available online for participants. To see the YouTube channel and previous classes from a variety of speakers - https://www.youtube.com/user/Ymdol1

We are looking for contributors, both for creative workshops and for talks/classes. Days of Creation (a collection of creative showcases and workshops) are not themed and we welcome any applications including: writing workshops, author showcases, craft workshops, film showings, film-making workshops, Fashion session, Gothic Make-up (or sfx) or anything creative!

For the talks, each month will have a theme. When you send in a cfp, you should state which months you would like to be considered for (one talk may be suitable for various themes). You should pitch this as a lecture for an open audience which will include both specialists and non-specialists. As always, we are particularly interested in papers with queer and decolonial perspectives and which look at traditions outside England and the USA.

The topics are as follows (more details available on the website here - https://romancingthegothic.com/2021/10/02/cfp-call-for-contributions-for...)

January - 19th century Gothic

February - Folklore

To apply please send an abstract (max: 250) to sam@romancingthegothic.com. Please include details of which months you would like to be considered for.

Please note: Romancing the Gothic runs on a first-come, first-served basis so if you leave application until the 31st March, there may well not be any spaces left.

There is a small honorarium for participation which is sourced from audience donations.

We look forward to seeing you! Please direct any questions to sam@romancingthegothic.com and please interpret each category loosely.
