The organizers of this seminar invite abstracts for American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) 2022
The goal of this panel is to provide a platform to locate the fast-evolving theoretical precepts in translation from a postcolonial and cultural studies perspective. Taking an in depth look at the possibilities and challenges posed by translation, we aim to demonstrate the ways in which ‘ethical’ translation in various possible senses can be integral to forming a resistance culture to counter the political environment in the metropole, which aims to suppress multilingual and multicultural realities in the US and beyond.

The Idea
GIRES, the Global Institute for Research, Education and Scholarship is committed to offering the tools that support the endeavors of global scholarly community. Our new workshop offers the tools for scholars who wish to enter and explore the fascinating world of Digital Humanities (DH) under the guidance of expert Dr. Rada Varga.
Today, experiments about how humans think usually take place in a lab, allowing researchers to locate thought processes in the brain with unprecedented precision. However, writers have experimented with thinking for much longer. For instance, Virginia Woolf argued in her essay “Thoughts on Peace in an Air Raid" (1940) that a new form of (women's) writing can cause a shift in how British men think and bring about peace. Between the Acts (1941) demonstrates how tone, rhythm, and diction can produce different cognitive registers—Elizabethan, Enlightenment, and Victorian—thus connecting form and cognition.
CALL FOR BOOK CHAPTER PROPOSALS
We’re seeking chapter-length contributions to an edited volume on politics and the Western. The working title for this project is A Fistful of Politics: The Western and Political Thought. We’re anticipating that much of our collection will deal with Western films, but we’re open to—and excited about—contributions that discuss anything within the Western genre (prose fiction, films, television series, comics, poetry, video games, theater, music, etc.) in connection with politics and political thought.

About The Adolescentia Project:
While the #MeToo movement as a cultural, feminist, and antiracist force has been slowly and steadily uncovering and altering landscapes of gendered harassment and abuse across our society, academia itself as an abusive culture has remained fairly immune to these critiques. Recent events at Harvard, where senior scholars immediately lined up in support of a colleague accused of habitually harassing students, only to withdraw that support later, are sadly typical of the kneejerk defense of institutions and disregard for victims that characterize such cases. Scholars such as Sarah Ahmed have forcefully critiqued academic culture, helping us begin to theorize its endemic harassment and abuse.
The THALiS Research Team (Transhistorical Anglophone Literary Studies) based at the University of Alicante takes pleasure in announcing the publication of a collective volume to commemorate the fourth centenary of the Shakespearean First Folio. This volume will be edited by Dr. Remedios Perni and entitled

The avant-garde has often been defined by its asserted antagonism towards existing norms, and, in turn, critiqued for its ultimate co-option or complicity in those norms. Building on this rich tradition of reflection on the significance and role of the avant-garde, this seminar is interested in shifting the focus to its collaborative dimensions: its networks and communities of production and consumption, including editors and publishers, distributors and readers, and literary networks and communities, alongside the more-studied figure of the individual artist/author. The virtual conference explores how contemporary cinema negotiates the spaces at international film festivals. Our scope includes contemporary cinema from different parts of the world, including India and non-English speaking countries. The growing presence and proliferation of film festivals in their varied manifestations leads us to posit: What is the nature of contemporary transnational cinema that is attracting international attention? How does this intersection play out in global reception, marketing, exhibition and distribution? What kinds of academic and theoretical interventions can emerge from this development?
