SWPACA 2022: Television [EXTENSION]

Southwest Popular / American Culture Association (SWPACA) 43rd Annual Conference, February 23-26, 2022, Albuquerque, New Mexico 

Proposals for papers and panels are now being accepted for the 40th annual SWPACA conference.  One of the nation’s largest interdisciplinary academic conferences, SWPACA offers nearly 70 subject areas, each typically featuring multiple panels.  

The Television Area Chair invites interested scholars to submit papers on any aspect of television, past or present. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • the possible future of television (including shows created for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple TV etc.)

  • audience response to television 

  • international television 

  • television and identity (gender, sexuality, race,  ethnicity, age, etc.)

  • television and social issues (politics, environmentalism, etc.) 

  • theory and criticism of television

Individual proposals for 15-minute papers must include an abstract of approximately 200-500 words. All proposals should be grounded in the academic study of television.  Including a brief bio in the body of the proposal form is encouraged, but not required.  

Submission deadline: November 14, 2021 (Extended deadline) 

All proposals must be submitted through the conference’s database at http://conference.southwestpca.org/
