The International Steinbeck Society is pleased to announce a call for paper presentations on the works of John Steinbeck for the upcoming in-person American Literature Association Conference to be held in Chicago IL on May 26-29th.


The Society is asking for papers that fit two streams: the first is a general stream on the study of John Steinbeck’s life and works (broadly defined). The second is a specialized panel titled “Steinbeck & the Living World.” Topics of consideration for this second panel should examine the way the author’s works, biography, and/or preoccupations offer insight into humans’ relationship with environments, agriculture, landscapes, nonhuman animals, biology, sustainability, place, etc. Submitters should indicate their level of interest in having their work reviewed for publication by The Steinbeck Review. Pedagogical, scholarly, and reflective pieces are all welcome.

Interested parties should submit a 250-350-word proposal and C.V. to by January 20, 2022.


Conference Details:

The American Literature Association’s 33rd annual conference will meet at the Palmer House Hilton May 26-29, 2022 (Thursday through Sunday of Memorial Day weekend). The deadline for proposals is January 30, 2022.
