The  Bloomsbury CHAPTER (Communication, History of Authorship, Publishing, Textual Editing and Reading), in association with University College London’s Centre for Publishing and the Institute of English Studies, University of London. is pleased to announce a one-day postgraduate conference. The conference (9 June 2022) will be held online with a hybrid in-person/online keynote.

‘Books in the Closet’
What happens when the ‘lifecycle’ of the book is altered, interrupted, or suppressed? How do changing cultural, social, legal, and political circumstances impact authorship, publication, distribution, reading? ‘Books in the Closet’ invites proposals for twenty-minute papers on all aspects and interpretations of the conference theme, covering all regions and time periods. To coincide with CHAPTER’s current emphasis, we especially invite contributions that focus on bookselling and the book trade. See further information about the CFP here.  Abstract SubmissionsIf you are interested in contributing a twenty-minute presentation, please send a 150-word abstract to chapter2022.conference@gmail.com by 11.59pm GMT on Thursday 31st March 2022. You will be notified by 15 April 2022 if your abstract has been accepted.
Eligibility
We welcome submissions from postgraduate students (MA/PhD), as well as from early career researchers (ECRs) who are within one year of the award of their PhD. While CHAPTER is UK-based, we do encourage submissions from anywhere around the world. The language of the conference will be English.
