Holocaust Studies Conference 2022
INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST STUDIES CONFERENCE
At Middle Tennessee State University
September 22 - September 24, 2022
Murfreesboro, Tennessee
Our conference solicits individual papers and panel proposals on all aspects of Holocaust and genocide studies. The featured topic for our 2022 conference is Teaching the Holocaust Today.
Keynote Speaker: Professor Atina Grossmann, The Cooper Union
Featured Speaker: Child Holocaust survivor Sonja Dubois
Teaching the Holocaust Today responds directly to current and ongoing events and forms of speech, such as social media discourse linking pandemic mask mandates to the oppression of European Jews in Nazi Germany and the January 2022 banning of Maus by the McMinn County School Board in Tennessee. The imminent passing of the last Holocaust survivors also pushes us to consider the future of Holocaust education, a future without direct witnesses. How should we respond to these and other challenges as educators? In addition to papers on our theme, we encourage submissions from a wide variety of perspectives on all Holocaust-related topics. Submissions welcome in comparative genocide studies, Sephardic and Muslim Holocaust studies, Holocaust representation, antisemitism, and trauma studies.
We invite individual paper and panel proposals by scholars, academic researchers, advanced graduate students, and independent scholars from all disciplines.
TO APPLY: Please send a single document (Word or PDF) containing an individual paper or panel proposal (200 words per paper) with a C.V. (1-2 pages) to hologen.conference@mtsu.edu. Panels should consist of 2-3 presenters and a moderator and must include a panel title, proposal for each paper, and C.V. for each participant.
We plan to host the conference in person. All participants should be available to present any time from 8am-5pm US Central Time on September 22-23 and between 8am-11am US Central Time on September 24, 2022.
