We are soliciting abstracts for putting together a co-edited book with a university press comparing aesthetics and critical theories from diverse cultures. Our project seeks to examine and introduce non-Western non-hegemonic discourses of non-White nations of the Global South. Our project aims to illustrate how formerly colonized nations have critical theories that are worth studying. Thus, we are seeking contributions that incorporate indigenous critical approaches with familiar European theories. Even though our approach is comparative, the focus should be more on indigenous and local theories. We are specifically interested in: Indian, Arabic, Chinese, Latino, Native American, and African approaches to literature. Some exemplary indigenous critical approaches include Vedic, rasa anddhawni, dalit theories––similar ancient Chinese and/or Japanese, decolonial African approaches such as those of Chinweizu or Ngugi, or Arab theories such as those of Taha Hussein and Ibn Khaldun.We particularly wish to find Native American and Hispanic/Latino indigenous aesthetics.
