Call For Interest

Chapters on Guerrilla Games Horizon series

Please distribute widely

This call is to assess interest in scholarly contributions for an edited volume on the

Horizon franchise. Released in February 2022 Horizon Forbidden West became an immediate

best-seller and with Zero Dawn is now part of one of PlayStation’s strongest new intellectual

properties.

This call is to assess whether there would be enough scholars interested to doing a chapter for an

edited volume on the franchise. Attention to the games, comics, board game, marketing, and all

other aspects would be considered of interest. Topics are fully open to the specialty of the

writers, though the editor has a special interest in seeing work on the invented cultures from an

anthropological perspective. Other areas of focus being actively solicited:

Feminism

Posthumanism

Apocalyptic and post-apocalypse

Myth and religion

Silicon valley character studies

Genetic technology / Cloning

But any area or topic is of interest

It would be the intent to place the volume in the Studies in Gaming series from McFarland

Publishers and, depending on the level of interest, to submit a final manuscript near the end of

2022 or early 2023. The series emphasizes both depth of analysis and readability. Chapters are

envisioned at the 5-7,000-word length.

At this time, I’m asking for people to submit a few sentences on what they’d like to cover, their

name and current academic status via email to Matthew Kapell at kapellm@yahoo.com.

Questions are encouraged at the same address. Advanced grad students are encouraged to apply.

Please feel free to forward this Call to any individuals who may be interested.
