We write to invite you to attend the 56th Western Literature Association Conference"Palimpsests and Western Literatures:
The Layered Spaces of History, Imagination, and the Future,"
 which will take place in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico from Wednesday, October 19th to Saturday, October 21st, 2022.  The deadline for conference proposals is June 15th, 2022 and the submission portal is open: https://www.conftool.pro/wla-conference-2022 The amazing Diné writer Luci Tapahonso will be awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award and speakers include renowned Chicana author, activist, and playwright Denise Chávez, and award-winning Akwesasne Mohawk poet James Thomas Stevens together with his students from the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA), among others. We understand both literature and the concept of the West broadly and encourage proposals and panels from across disciplines, including, but not limited to, Ethnic and Critical Race Studies, Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies, Environmental Studies, History, American Studies, Rhetoric and Composition Studies, Art and Architectural Studies, Creative Writing, and more. This year we are adding a poster session, which is open to faculty and students alike. Students are always welcome and we will have social gatherings and special sessions for graduate students. You can find the conference call and lodging information here.
