The theme for the 87th Annual Conference of the Indiana College English Association is "The Impacts of Education." 

“There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance.” – Socrates

While Plato’s teacher, Socrates, left no extant texts of his own, his ideas about how knowledge emerges from dialogue between two or more people with different viewpoints survive through his students’ writings to form the cornerstone of Western education. In a time when ignorance can be more dangerous than evil, the Indiana College English Association invites papers for its 87th Annual Conference that engage conversations about “The Impacts of Education” through the discipline of English and its subfields. How do teacher-scholars and students of English confront conflicting perspectives through reading and discussion, from banned books to canonical literature, from studying and applying literary and rhetorical theories, through analyzing, explicating, composing, and conversing about texts of all kinds, verbal and visual? How does our work impact our culture, shape our future, and enrich our everyday lives, as well as the lives of our students and their families?

Yet another way to interpret this theme is to once again approach our work as teacher-scholars regardless of what opportunities exist as we are called to shape the next generation of English students.

Areas of potential paper topics might come from the following fields:

*Literary analysis and/or textual criticism

*Teaching digitally

*Writing across the curriculum (WAC) and/or writing in the disciplines (WID)

*Rhetoric and composition

*Linguistics/language studies

*Creative writing

*Historical and/or cultural contextualizations of literature

*Other pedagogy and classroom practices

*Professional writing

*Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL/TEFL/TELL, etc.)

*cross-disciplinary or interdisciplinary work 

*creative submissions

…and more: while we invite papers specifically related to our theme, all papers of post-secondary English studies are welcome.

We encourage you to email your 200-word abstract, along with your name, position (if applicable), and academic affiliation by August 15, 2022 to IndianaCEA@gmail.com. Graduate students wanting to compete for the ICEA Best Graduate Student Presentation Award must submit a complete paper by August 15. Undergraduates with faculty sponsors and support will also be considered. 

When proposing a full panel, please send a single abstract, with titles and information for all papers and panelists.

If your paper or panel is accepted, you will be required to join the ICEA in order to present. 

We would like to offer a digital opportunity to present one's paper, but availability might be limited to specific panel sessions. More details to follow.

Please note: as we are an affiliate of the College English Association, successful papers presented at ICEA 2022 are welcomed for submission and presentation at CEA’s April 2023 national conference in San Antonio; this allows for further refinement of a paper/idea, to a broader audience.
