Catherine Malabou places her signature concept of “plasticity” within the material encounters between the Kantian, Hegelian, and Derridean threads of the continental philosophical tradition and emerging developments in neuroscience, epigenesis, and political organization. Her recent work has demonstrated the relevance of these encounters to fields as diverse as trauma studies, gender and queer studies, hermeneutics, anarchism, postcolonialism, artificial intelligence, evolution, anthropogenic climate change, sexuality, and affect studies, to name just a few.

In the wake of his death in 2021, tributes emphasised how Sondheim’s creations were not only a postmodern challenge to the hummable tunes of traditional musical theatre and conventional simplicities of staging and plot, but also to expected ideas of the musical theatre protagonist. Writing in The Atlantic, Sophie Gilbert expressed the audience’s love for Sondheim as a response to how his work ‘takes the typically unseen… and forces them into the spotlight’.

“Horrors belong as naturally to the fireside, as fireside belongs to Christmas” declares the narrator of the piece “Fireside Horrors for Christmas” in the December 1847 issue of Dublin University Magazine. This image of “popular fireside stories or winter’s tales” exchanged in communal settings had, as the late Catherine Belsey explained, a “long vernacular tradition” (2010). Furthermore, it was, she argues, a practice that often-challenged orthodox institutional discourse about, for example, the “true meaning” of Christmas or the origins of ghosts and tapped into secular and “pagan” rituals and practices.

Hinduism Against Hindutva

In the summer of 2021, speakers at the Dismantling Global Hindutva conference stated: "In our advocacy, we state clearly that Hindutva ideology is not the same as the Hinduism that we aspire to, but we cannot deny that proponents of Hindutva are doing so as Hindus, in the name of a monolithic Hinduism. As Shana Sippy put it, not all Hinduism is Hindutva, but Hindutva is clearly one manifestation of Hinduism.”

The study of violence works on constituting different angles through which violent actions take place, while also focusing on the difference in the morality of actions that are thus committed. Since everybody accepts facts in an interpretational setup, the realities of ground zero are ignored. The act of attaining knowledge, as Michel Foucault says, requires digging. Rather than interpretation there needs to be an understanding of the difference between the representative point of view and representation.
