Narrative Form in American Fiction
deadline for submissions: January 25, 2023
Ever since Aristotle told us in the Poetics that a plot has a beginning, a middle, and an end, writers have been pushing back against that claim in interesting ways. In American fiction, we find examples in the work of Melville, Gertrude Stein, Faulkner, Gass, Gaddis, Acker, Toni Morrison, and Jonathan Bayliss, among many others. Submissions for the panel Narrative Form in American Fiction may focus on particular authors or genres, or on theoretical questions. Please send abstracts of no more than 250 words to Gary Grieve-Carlson at grieveca@lvc.edu by January 25, 2023. Please indicate if you have AV requirements.
