CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - Deadline January 10, 2023:

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Georgetown University invites you to participate in its Graduate Portuguese and Hispanic Symposium 2023 (GRAPHSY). This year’s conference welcomes proposals within the theme of Encuentros con el cuerpo: actitudes, performances y los sentidos / Encontros com o corpo: atitudes, performances e os sentidos, encouraging the submission of a broad range of research in the fields of Linguistics, Iberian and Latin American Literatures, and Cultures. GRAPHSY 2023 looks for proposals that bring into focus matters of corporeality and the senses that define and interpret the experience of the subject. We seek to breach and explore interdisciplinary boundaries across linguistics, literature and cultural studies in order to unsettle the corporeal world and understand its ramifications, with the end goal of interrogating matters of morality, sociopolitics, and culture. This includes non-exhaustively, discussions regarding the body and the senses in relation to the individual as a source of authenticity, gender, and sexuality, ideologies, somatic practices, heteroglossic perspectives, and language attitudes, among others. In this way, we propose to interrogate various conjectures about material and organic conceptions of the body as well as abstract and theoretical ones.

All graduate students will be able to partake in either presentations or poster sessions. Undergraduates students (linguistics) in particular will be considered exclusively for poster sessions. Undergraduate students (literature) will be considered for a thesis paper session.

The organizing committee of GRAPHSY 2023 invites abstracts for the conference to be held in person on February 17, 2023. Abstracts may speak to any topic related, but not limited, to the conference theme, although we especially encourage submissions on the following topics:
