SUBMISSION WINDOW CLOSED - Time and Its Influences - IUP EGO Spring Conference 2023
While we sometimes feel like life is moving around us rather than with us, it is essential to take a moment and consider how we got where we are. Over time, attitudes, opinions, and feelings have shifted along with what we choose to carry with us. To avoid leaving important things behind or risk forgetting them altogether, it is time to ask ourselves why we leave certain things behind and what it means when we do.
IUP's English Graduate Organization is proud to announce the 2023 EGO Spring Conference with the theme: Time and Its Influences. Because of the success of last year’s hybrid model, EGO plans to conduct this conference in hybrid format as well (both in-person and via Zoom) to accommodate everyone and encourage those from outside of IUP to join us as well.
We encourage the submission of both scholarly and creative pieces as well as panels composed of interrelated work that deals with the topic of time. Abstracts can cover:
-
Time as a character
-
Evolution of literary topics
-
Evolution of representation in literature
-
Changes in Education/Teaching practices of English and other languages
-
Racial dialects (AAVE, Pigeon/Creole, Spanglish, Interlingua, Erdu/Hindi, etc)
-
Non-Anglo language erasure (Yiddish, Haitian, Gaelic, Welsh, Native American languages, etc.)
-
Forgotten Languages (Sign Language, Braille, languages for mute persons, etc)
-
Influences of Colonialization
-
And so much more.
The conference will be held in the Jane Leonard Building (we hope) as well as through Zoom from April 14th- April 15th, 2023. Sunday, April 16th may be added and will be entirely virtual if we need more time for everyone’s presentations
Please submit a 250-300 word abstract and a 50-word bio to iupgradego@gmail.com and to mtwill@iup.edu by March 17th, 2023 to be considered for this conference.
If you have any additional questions, please email Jordan Hansen, EGO President lrvcc@iup.edu
