For this interdisciplinary and transhistorical panel at MLA 2024 (in Philadelphia, January 4-7), we invite abstracts for 15-20 minute papers that are closely attenuated to the complexities and complications of embodiment. In particular, we invite scholars whose work intersect with race, disability, class, gender, sexuality, amongst other social concerns that are often written into and upon the body itself. As two literary scholars from specific historically constructed fields (Victorian and Medieval Literatures) we are intently concerned with how competing theories, contexts, and concepts of embodiment have developed across periods, countries, and genres and would welcome papers that lay at the intersection points of periodization, or otherwise do not neatly fit within set disciplinary formations.
Interested scholars should reach out and submit a 250-word abstracts, along with a short biography listing your affiliation(s) and other relevant information.
All Submissions and questions should be sent to warguelles@gradcenter.CUNY.edu AND christian.lewis@baruch.CUNY.edu.
