Going Public: What the Literature Classroom Owes
The Midwest MLA Permanent Section on Native American Literature seeks proposals for the 2023 MMLA conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, to be held November 2-5, 2023. Papers should address the conference theme of “What the MMLA Owes Democracy,” with a focus on Native American literatures in the classroom. Papers may explore what the study of Native American literature owes to students, to authors, to texts, and/or to indigenous cultures and rights. Papers addressing socially-relevant pedagogical approaches to contemporary Native American texts are encouraged. Topics may include complexities of teaching Native American literatures to students in general education and survey courses.
