International Conference

on

“Conflict Studies and South Asian Literature”

Date: 9th and 10th August 2023

MODE - VIRTUAL

CONCEPT NOTE

From a broad perspective, “conflict is an actual or perceived opposition of interests, understandings, and values” (Druckman and Paul 2006; Ranjan 2018), encapsulating discords and differences of varied types. In the South Asian context, a geo-socio-political terrain marked by labyrinths of incompatibilities since times immemorial, the idea of conflict expounds on a multitude of contested facets of socio-political, socio-linguistic and socio-cultural life. These differences, discords, hostilities and their impact have been represented in the literature composed by authors in the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora. Be it the unresolvable conflict in Kashmir or the civil war in Sri Lanka, the communal tensions or the hostility between the individual and his immediate societal structure – a multitude of micro and macro conflicts have been depicted in literature. To facilitate a holistic, transdisciplinary understanding of conflicts in the South Asian context, we invite students, research scholars, and academicians to attend and participate in this conference.

Abstracts of original research (word limit – 300) are invited on the following sub-themes though not limited to it:
