Panel: Translations, Revisions, and Adaptations in the Eighteenth Century

Panel Chair: Lina Jiang (ljiang28@fordham.edu)

The 18th century witnessed a surge in translation activities, with scholars and writers engaging in the reimagining and reinterpretation of literary works from various cultures and time periods. This panel delves into the fascinating world of eighteenth-century translations, revisions, and adaptations. By exploring the dynamic interplay between past and present, tradition and innovation, we try to understand the transformative power of translations during this pivotal period in literary history. The panel aims at bringing together papers from diverse disciplines that explore different facets of eighteenth-century translations. We welcome papers that examine various genres, including poetry, drama, fiction, and philosophical works, and their translations during this period.

Please send a 250-word abstract to Lina Jiang (ljiang28@fordham.edu) by June 15, 2023.
