Some 25 years today, a handful of assertive, enthusiastic, single-minded, and refreshing Anglophone Studies scholars at Lucian Blaga University, Sibiu, empowered by their like-minded peers in Canada, the UK and the US, embarked upon a lofty, exciting and freewheeling journey animated by an unquenchable desire to contribute new insights into and angles to the ongoing adventure of English. Today, as we celebrate 25 years of continuity, inspiration and achievement, we look back with joy to the grand and resplendent endeavour behind our unflinching commitment. At home, we started out embracing a post-revolutionary mantra of our own design: “So far, we have done so much, with so little and for so long, that it now feels we can do almost everything with nothing”. And indeed we did, academically, pedagogically, research-wise and otherwise.

Upon its 25th anniversary, ABC Studies is now calling for a guest editor to assist with the silver jubilee issue, which sets out to explore the latest, most consequential and emancipating developments in the study of Anglophone sensibility.

Themes may include, but are not limited to:

  • The post-humanist turn: post-pandemic lessons and departures in digital literacies;
  • The condition of the subject: post-humanities - ‘more-than-human’?
  • AI and creative writing: truce or happy marriage?
  • AI and literary translation: human translators to be made redundant?
  • The academic subject of English in the age of AI: EAP and/versus ChatGPT;
  • Whither HE in Anglophone studies?

You are strongly encouraged to submit exciting and broad-ranging original articles that have not been published elsewhere, nor are currently under review in any other refereed journal. We regret we are unable to accept multiple submissions. You may submit papers that have been presented in conferences only if the papers have been thoroughly revised or extended to engage a theme that fits the ABC Studies profile.
