Vernon Press: Call for Book Chapters- Queer Representation in Literature and Popular Culture
Vernon Press invites book chapters for a forthcoming edited volume on the subject of "Queer Representation in Literature and Popular Culture."
This book explores queer representations through varied narratives from literature, media, and popular culture in an attempt to explore queer sexuality, the portrayal of queer bodies, and the socio-political construction of sexuality. The objective is to critically analyze queer representations in the form of narratives and popular imagination, shedding light on the current debates and queer politics. The book employs frameworks of gender, identity, nationalism, history, culture, citizenship, and censorship to understand queer subjectivities in contemporary narratives.
By analyzing contemporary modes and platforms of queer representation in the twenty-first century, including the influence of streaming platforms, this book recognizes the significant shifts in portraying and positioning queer identities. It acknowledges that the heterogeneity of sexual identities allows for the flourishing of diverse imaginations and the coexistence of multiple cultural and sexual identities. The culturally constructed nature of gendered identities in India provides an opportunity to comprehend these representations through literature and popular culture.
We are calling for book chapters for our edited volume "Queer Representation in Literature and Popular Culture," currently under consideration by Vernon Press (Delaware, USA). We welcome submissions, particularly in the South Asian context, concerning the discourses of queer sexuality, queer diaspora, intersectionality, censorship, media, and popular culture.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Queer visual culture
Digital queer cultures
Queer health and reproductive rights
Queer and nationalism
Queer Body Image
