deadline for submissions:
July 31, 2023
full name / name of organization:
New Essays on History and Form in Early Modern Literature, edited by Gail Kern Paster and Nick Moschovakis
contact email:

We are seeking a complete essay draft (approx. 5000-7500 words) for possible inclusion as a chapter in New Essays on History and Form in Early Modern Literature, edited by Gail Kern Paster and Nick Moschovakis. This opportunity exists because serious health considerations have recently compelled the late withdrawal of an invited contributor. The volume is currently under contract with Routledge for publication in 2024.

To be considered, your essay must combine aspects of historicist and formalist criticism, ideally in a way that adds significantly to recent accounts of the interface between these two approaches. We are looking especially for essays on prose or verse narrative, but essays on non-English or polyglot writing, in any genre, are welcome.

Please do your best to submit a first draft no later than July 31, 2023. Depending on the submissions received by that date, we may make a decision as early as the middle of August. If you hope to submit after July 31, please inquire before submitting. Please note as well that we cannot decide based on an abstract or outline. We will read your essay promptly and get back to you with a decision. Acceptance may be conditional on revision to the editors' specifications.

Thank you for considering this opportunity.
