Every society experiences growth as it tries to move from a traditional agrarian one to a more industrialized one. Growth is the only constant in society where it occurs both qualitatively and quantitatively. While population growth, agricultural growth etc. may be considered to be a quantitative growth, urban growth, societal growth etc. may be considered to be qualitative growth. This steady growth also implies that the sustainable development of all societies is crucial. To balance the growth and sustainability in the changing society itself is a complex process and requires a comprehensive study with respect to the growth of population, economic, urban growth and so on. To ensure sustainable development in the growing society the growth of society on local, regional or global perspectives must be addressed.

The analysis of societal growth in the light of sustainability elaborates on a few concepts which explain the theoretical framework of sustainable development.

This book is will present a multi-disciplinary collection of original contributions by scholars, practitioners and academicians all over the world and presents an extensive overview of theories, concepts, approaches and practical examples and will be published from a reputed publishing house. It will contribute to the current debates about the transitions into a sustainable society and also explore sustainable transitions in urban settings.
