The Collecting and Collectibles Area of the Popular Culture Association invites papers on

“The Future Imaginary in Collecting” for the 2024 National PCA/ACA Conference to be held on March 27-30 in Chicago USA 

 

We would especially like to encourage submissions that contribute new directions and calls to the existing scholarship on “Collecting” and particularly address how collections/collectibles imagine the future.

Possible topics for presentations include but are not limited to:

  • Displacement and evasion in collections/collectibles

  • Collectibles/collections as narration/storytelling
  • Re-archiving and flexible archiving
  • Indigenous collectibles in the Digital Age
  • Ekphrasis of futures in collections/ collectibles
  • Visionary dispersal of indigenous collectibles
  • Counter Imaginaries in indigenous collectibles
  • Indigenous collectibles and mutability in new environments
  • Indigenous collectibles and alternative contexts of display
  • Imaginary worlds of collections from different cultures
  • Collections/collectibles and the future of reality
  • Collections/collectibles and authentic technology futurist
  • Substitutes of collectibles and resilient authenticity
  • Galleries/museums of the future
  • Botanical collectibles and scientific imaginaries

 

Interested individuals are asked to submit an abstract of no more than 250 words (including presentation title); 100-word mini-biography, complete contact information (name, institutional affiliation, mail and e-mail addresses, and contact telephone number). ACCEPTS UNDERGRADUATE SUBMISSIONS. Submissions will only be accepted through PCA website.
