The journal Animation Practice, Process & Production will release an issue in 2024 focused on increasing the visibility, analyzing and promoting the creative work of female and genderqueer animators.
Innovative models of critical presentation and analysis are especially encouraged. All topics engaged with the practice, process and production of animation, from a range of perspectives, will be considered. We are also open to quality writing that adopts forms beyond the article, such as interviews and reviews.
The objectives for this issue are:

Highlight the undeniable presence of women and genderqueer in the practice, process, and production of animation.

Increase the presence and visibility of female animators, producers, and researchers in the literary world.

Raise awareness about the animated experiences, creative process and perspectives of humans identified as feminine.
-
Bring recognition and validation to the animation field made by women and genderqueer animators.
-
Bring attention to such issues as gender-based violence, reproductive rights, gender pay gap and other social inequalities.
Suggested topics include:

Works that address aspects of gender, animation, and production from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Analysis about the social construction of gender and animation.
-
Preservation of the works made by females in the history of animation.
-
Stories narrated by feminine and genderqueer humans.
-
Representation of gender roles and stereotypes in animation.
-
Gender and the representation of age in animation.
-
Female representation and censorship.
-
Gender, globalization and animation.
-
Gender, environment and animation.
-
Gender representation in animation.
-
Gender and the animation industry.
-
Gender and the body in animation.
-
Gender and genre in animation.
-
Any other topic that encourages reflection and promotes gender equality.
DEADLINE for 300-words abstracts: 15 November 2023.
The length of articles published with AP3 generally ranges from 4000 to 7000 words.
