Call for Book Chapter Proposals

Title of the Book: From World Literature to National Literature: Re-telling and Adaptation of Myths in Turkish Literature

Editor: Dr. Volkan KILIÇ

Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing

Overview:

Turkey's rich cultural heritage encompasses a wealth of mythological narratives, reflecting influences from various civilizations, including Hittite, Greek, Persian, Western, and Arabic. Over centuries, these myths have been reimagined, reinterpreted, and integrated into Turkish literature. From the Ottoman era to modernity and the contemporary period, Turkish writers have drawn on these mythological roots to navigate complex questions of identity, tradition, and nationhood. This volume seeks to examine this dynamic interplay between global mythological themes and Turkish literary traditions.

We invite scholars, researchers, and academicians to contribute chapters to an upcoming edited volume, From World Literature to National Literature: Re-telling Myths in Turkish Literature. This volume aims to explore the intricate relationship between Turkish literature and global mythology, shedding light on how myths have played a transformative role in shaping Turkish literary narratives and contributing to the broader discourse of world literature.

This edited volume will encompass a diverse range of topics and approaches within Turkish literature and mythology, including but not limited to:

The adaptation and transformation of global myths in Turkish literary works.

The role and use of myth as a tool for reflecting on national identity and historical consciousness.

Comparative analyses of Turkish and international mythological narratives.

The role of myth in contemporary Turkish literature and its engagement with globalization.

Explorations of gender, politics, and cultural heritage through mythological narratives.

We welcome contributions from scholars across disciplines who are passionate about exploring the dynamic interplay between Turkish literature and world mythology. Join us in uncovering the enduring influence of myths in shaping the narratives of Turkish literature and their resonance in the broader context of world literature. We believe that From World Literature to National Literature: Re-telling Myths in Turkish Literature will make a significant contribution to the field of Turkish literature studies and world literature discourse.
