Proposals for the 2024 SC State Remote Intersectional Studies Conference
The Department of English and Communications at South Carolina State University invites proposals for individual twenty-minute papers/presentations for the 2024 Intersectional Studies Remote Conference via Zoom on Friday, March 22, 2024.
Papers that explore the 2024 ISC theme “Intersectional Futures: Representation and Social Justice in a Globalized World” are particularly welcome. What does representation in a global society look like and who gets to determine this? Even within societies that pride themselves on the equality of their citizens, what disparities still exist between those whose voices are represented and those whose voices aren’t? Paper topics can include but are not limited to what true representation in a society means, the struggle for representation among various groups, how representation is affected by global politics, and how the history of and struggle for representation is depicted in literature and the arts. The ISC also announces the inclusion of a permanent panel on Intersectional Feminisms, and papers addressing various topics in this area are also invited. Papers not placed on that panel will be considered for the larger pool of panels. The ISC is interdisciplinary and welcomes papers/presentations from a variety of fields. The conference is free and open to the public.
