CFP Panel on Ecocritical Adaptations in Animations and Experimental Films
We are seeking paper abstracts for a panel proposal provisionally titled "Ecocritical Adaptations in Animations and Experimental Films." The conference of FMSAC will take place at McGill University in Montreal, June 14–16, 2024 (https://www.filmstudies.ca/conference/fmsac2024)
Co-organizers : Fei Shi and Sylvie Bissonnette (sylvie_bis at hotmail.com)
Deadline: January 20, 2024
Playing with the double meaning of “adaptation,” which suggests an evolutionary process and a form of literary, artistic, and cultural retelling, this panel explores the intersections between adaptation and ecocriticism in experimental animations and films. Papers could examine multispecies perspectives that de-centers the human, biological and embodied connotations of adaptation, and affective techniques that foster an ecological disposition or critical stance toward nature, plants, or animals. Critical approaches from minority positions, including, but not limited to, feminism, queer theory, critical race studies, disability studies, indigenous and first nations studies, and postcolonial studies are welcome.
If you would like to participate in this panel, please email us your abstract. The email should include a title for a presentation that will last a maximum of 20 minutes, a title, an abstract (250-350 words), and this information : name, position, institutional affiliation, and email address.
Letters of acceptance or rejection will be emailed on 20 January 2024.
